For the past five years, the Asia Case Research Center of the Faculty of Business and Economics, The University of Hong Kong, has organised the only Hong Kong-based undergraduate business case competition that brought together students and faculty from all of Hong Kong universities as well as top universities from all over the Asia-Pacific region. Teams of four undergraduates representing their respective universities competed against other teams in business strategy-making and presentation, and were judged by senior business executives with exceptional international experience. During the event, students had the opportunity to interact with some of Asia's brightest talents and to experience Hong Kong's unique international culture.

As sole sponsor of this year's competition, HSBC will kick off the HSBC Asia Pacific Business Case Competition 2013 with a welcome dinner on June 4th, followed by a two-day competition held on June 5th and 6th at the University of Hong Kong and HSBC's Hong Kong head office. The 2013 Competition has 24 participating teams from universities from 12 countries, totaling 96 students and 24 coaches. For the winning teams, cash prizes of HK$60,000, HK$30,000 and HK$10,000 will be awarded.

The 2013 Competition consists of four rounds, two rounds on day one and two on the second day. For each round, teams are given an unpublished business case and 2.5 hours of preparation time to design a presentation that includes solutions and recommendations for the case. Each team will then be assigned 20 minutes to deliver a presentation, presided by a panel of judges. A short Q&A section will follow after each presentation.
