This case investigates solid waste management in Hong Kong. In April 2005, landfill charges were implemented in Hong Kong in an attempt to offset the shortage of landfill capacity. Since the construction industry is responsible for most of the solid waste generated, this case focuses on the impact that landfill charges will have on the construction industry. The debate surrounding whether or not the new landfill charges will act as a deterrent for future developers is also presented.
